This Is Why You Should Always Wear a Sleeping Mask to Bed

It’s called “beauty” sleep for a reason!

Beauty | By Marj Ramos – Jan 16, 2017

http://www.preview.ph/beauty/this-is-why-you-should-be-wearing-a-sleeping-mask-to-bed-a00034-20170116

This Is Why You Should Always Wear a Sleeping Mask to Bed

If you’re not yet in the habit of wearing a sleeping mask every night as you hit the sheets, then consider this your official reminder that you need to do so, stat! Eye masks are specifically designed to block out the light and help you fall asleep faster, whether you’re in bed or currently on a long-haul flight to the other side of the world. But apart from obvious reasons, wearing a sleeping mask also offers one more remarkable benefit—preventing wrinkles! The probability of you squinting in your sleep is significantly lessened with an eye mask on, therefore preventing fine lines and unwanted crow’s feet from further developing. Not to mention, it also keeps you from unconsciously rubbing your eye area with your hands!

And now that we’ve established the importance of wearing a sleeping mask, you might want to check out our picks below—because, you know, while you’re at it, you might as well do it in style, right?

With a visual wonderland of a blog and a pastel-perfect Instagram feed to call her own, there is no doubt to Ida Anduyan’s innate understanding of aesthetics. An artist at heart, the 22-year-old’s perceptive eye and natural inclination to the mundanely beautiful translates into her love of makeup and skincare. An affinity strengthened by time and trial, Ida talks beauty and the tips and tricks she subscribes to.

When did you discover your love for skincare and makeup?
I started wearing makeup in late high school, I just recently discovered contouring and highlighting. Before basic lang, like powder, eyeliner and mascara.
What was your first makeup investment?
Probably stuff from Etude House, because it’s fairly cheap for high school students. I used their facial wash and moisturizer.
Do you gravitate towards any particular color palettes?
I’m more into nude palettes: nude lips, subtle smoky eyes and full lashes.

Where do you pick up your skincare and makeup know-hows?
Usually, I learn through YouTube videos for makeup. For skincare, I’ve been through a lot of products for acne-prone people. It’s really trial and error.
What’s the number 1 beauty tip you swear by?
No matter how much high-end makeup you have, if you don’t have a good canvas, it wont go on as nicely as the pictures you see online. Don’t depend on serums. You really have to eat right and eat veggies, although I don’t always do that… (laughs) ‘Yun talaga ang key, having nice skin is all about lifestyle. Also, it doesn’t necessarily mean that expensive products are better than the cheaper ones. Trial and error talaga.

Online Store of the Week: Eve the Label

Luxury sleepwear and so much more.

Online Store of the Week: Eve the Label
Most people wouldn’t care to spend on sleepwear, and only a true fashion girl would know better and take time to invest in a couple of boudoir basics. This probably also explains why there is a gap in the number of brands that focus on the silky and oh-so-comfy apparel. But if there is no market, why sell it? For the Trinidad sisters Eve, Ennah, Ellaija, and Eunice, it was simple—they wanted to create pieces that they love.

Hepburn Pyjama Set, P1950-2150 depending on the additions

Check out @evethelabel_ on Instagram and there you’ll see proof that if your products are good enough, people will buy. The brand offers luxury sleepwear that are so good, you can totally rock them on the streets, too. It has now evolved into a stronger label that also sells swimwear, resorts wear, and even a bridal collection coming soon.

So how exactly does one make a mark in the local market by carving out his/her own niche? Scroll down and read about the story of Eve the Label.

Can you share with us how Eve the Label came to life?

“Our eldest sister, Eve, has always been into fashion. She studied Merchandise Product Development at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA. She then had short courses at Parsons in Paris and New York. When she came home, we more or less knew we wanted to start our own clothing line. We knew there was a lack of suppliers in luxury sleepwear in the local market, so we decided to fill in the gap.”

IMAGE INSTAGRAM/evethelabel_

Kate Maxi dress, P3500

Oh, okay! So is it Eve who does the designs for the brand?

“Eve, who the label is named after, is our head designer. But all of our designs have to be approved by all of us before production. We want our designs to reflect each of our own personalities.”

IMAGE INSTAGRAM/evethelabel_

Lana Lace Set, P1750

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

“Growing up, our mom was obsessed with luxury sleepwear. Everything was silk and because it wasn’t readily available here in Manila, she usually had to get it abroad whenever she traveled. When we first started, we got inspiration from our favorite childhood memories of staying at home with our mom in silk pajamas. As for our resorts wear, our family manages a resort in El Nido. We’ve spent our best vacations there so we wanted it to reflect a sense of fun and yet still be sexy at the same time.”

Who do you imagine wearing your pieces?

“We envision our clients to be women who are sexy and confident, those who want their clothes to be timeless but with an edge.”

Custom Elvira Robe, P900-P1400

Do you customize?

“Yes, we do customize. It’s important to us that our clients look and feel great in our clothes. That goes with the understanding that not all body types are the same so we accept custom orders in order to get the best fit for our clients.”

What can we look forward to from Eve the Label?

“We are actually launching our custom bridal gowns and evening gowns by the end of the year, so please watch out for that!”

Sleepwear has never looked this good. Follow them @evethelabel_ on Instagram and start shopping!

ROYGBIV: A Solution To Color-Coordinated Holiday Festivities

We know, you know. When the big clan reunions start during the holidays, all of a sudden you need to come in a specific color assigned to your branch of the family (your lola had ten siblings and your grand-lola had three husbands? Join the club)—and damn it, it’s never black. Here, we run the gamut of pink, red, orange, green, and blue, to show that holiday dressing doesn’t necessarily mean an org t-shirt you picked up at school, or ridiculous family photos. Step one: embrace it. Step two: see below.

   Serving Face: Maine Manalansan

Makeup is a ruse, a distraction, a way of hiding one’s self — or at least, that’s what most people seem to think. Contrary to that, we believe that makeup can be a way of expressing one’s self and (dare we say it) of being authentic.

Maine Manalansan

ART DIRECTOR, YOUNG STAR; MANAGING DIRECTOR, MR. MANILEÑO; FREELANCER

How long have you been interested in makeup?
Just last year. Before, I really couldn’t be bothered with even a Chapstick. Marga Buenaventura from Young Star influenced me to watch a bunch of YouTube videos everyday, and then I fell into a black hole of Jaclyn Hill and NikkiTutorials makeup videos. I got interested in trying out the products because I really only started with eyeliner in College, and then I learned to do full makeup from the YouTube videos. I like the process.

How would you describe your relationship with makeup?
This is the first decision I make in the morning and it’s important to take control of the rest of my day. It’s therapeutic for me and it’s also a form of self-expression, but I don’t wear makeup solely because I want to feel good about myself. Looking good is just the bonus. For me, it’s a form of art and therapy.

3

What do you think are some common misconceptions about women who love using makeup?
People say that we’re maarte or insecure, but they don’t really know what goes on behind it or what our motivations are behind it. We all have different reasons and I think it’s shallow to judge others by the way they look in the first place. Makeup is just another layer that you have to go through to get to know a person. It’s better to just go straight in being interested with the personality and not just the looks.

What’s the hardest part of your makeup routine?
The hardest part is when I try to use liquid lipstick, because there’s so much to do like you line your lips and all. I guess it’s also therapeutic because there are so many steps but just trying to get the lines right is something I can’t do. Maybe I’m just an eye person and I like to blend the colors. Removing liquid lipstick is also difficult like for the Kylie Lipkit, you need an oil-based product to take it off. I’m very low-maintenance, I just use wipes and Cetaphil.

BEAUTY maine a1

On the other hand, what is the best makeup-related compliment you’ve ever received?
I like it when people tell me that my eye shadow is blended really well, or if my eyeliner is “on fleek” because this took me years of practice. I like it when people compliment the details because I see this as art, so, when I blend it really well it’s also an accomplishment for me.

They say we spend one third of our lives in bed, so it only makes sense to invest in luxe silky repertoires that sweet dreams are made of. A personalised silk pyjama set remains stylish all hours of the day, and has the right amount of accompanying insouciance you could ever ask for.Surely I live for these Eve The Label collared cut co-ords, they’re both mighty transeasonal and functional – simply add one major jewellery piece and a sumptuous coat, and you’re out the door in seconds. There’s also a reason why silk robe dressing gowns are a coveted item. They’re timeless, will never date, and will stay with you for years and years. I personally bring one or two along on my travels, for they’re seriously lightweight and unbelievably chic to lounge in.Sleepwear elegance never looked better. Agree?

It’s been a little over a year since Soma Stores opened its doors to change the way we look at shopping. Heavily inspired by Dover Street Market, Soma Stores gives a spin to Manila’s retail scene — by housing purely local brands in what seems to be a ‘department store’ set-up. Another unique thing about Soma Stores is the concept of pop-up, where brands rotate every quarter; this gives an opportunity for independent brands to gain exposure and a wider channel for distribution.
